Duddeston Manor School - The Last Open Day
I attended Duddeston Manor Bilateral School from September 1969 to July 1974, I hadn’t been in there since then, until, by chance I heard that there was to be a last ‘Open Day’ before its closure – well, I just had to go for one last time.
Most of the photos shown here were taken on the last 'Open Day' - 07th July 2012, some were taken before that date, and some were taken after the school closed its doors for last time.
There are 39 Images in this collection.

Duddeston Manor School Badge. This is a photo of the actual school badge that adorned the breast pocket of my blazer whilst I was at ‘Duddy’, bought from Charles Lamb, Coventry Road, Small Heath in the Summer of 1969 – I don’t know what happened to the school tie that was bought at the same time.

Reception and Foyer Entrance.

The reception area, the three windows with green roller shutters on them were (from right to left) Head Master’s office - Mr Robert Southern, Deputy Head Master’s - Mr Hedley Andrews, and the Secretaries office. The Ground floor was admin, staff room, general meeting room, first aid etc. The First floor was science – chemistry, physics, and biology. The Second floor was domestic science and art, the domestic science rooms were fully equipped kitchens designed to teach pupils how to cook, and look after a home – unfortunately stereotyping was still the order of the day, so this facility was only available to the girls.

Those Stairs - It was good exercise going up and down these stairs several times a day.

The Big Building - I don't know if it had a name, or if it was referred to in any other way. Over my 5 years the subjects I studied in this building were English with Mr Hedley Andrews (Deputy Head), Mr Peter Kirby, and Mr Alan Mannford. Maths with Mr Basil Lewis, Noel O'Kane. History with Mr Price. Geography with Mr Voller, then later with Mr Dyke. German with Mr Fiddler. Computer Science with Noel O'Kane. Technical Drawing with Mr Trethowan, Mr Burnand, Mr John Harris.

The Gym Block - Boys Gym on the Ground floor, Girls Gym on the First.

Reception for all visiting former Duddeston Manor pupils.
